How this estimate works
The Backyard Bite Index is an informational heuristic. It combines live weather, recent rainfall, seasonal pest activity, wind, and an editable regional habitat calibration. It estimates how favorable local conditions are for tick and mosquito activity; it does not detect insects in a specific yard and is not a medical or public-health diagnosis.
Weather and city/ZIP search results are supplied by Open-Meteo. County and state labels may be verified with the U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder. Regional calibration values are Bite Back modeling defaults and should be refined as field observations and additional public surveillance datasets are added.
